A Return to Jurassic Park’s Roots
Over the years, the Jurassic Park franchise has spawned its fair share of video games – some hits, some misses. But Jurassic Park: Survival looks ready to transport players straight back to the pulse-pounding suspense and wonder of the original 1993 classic.
In a newly released developer diary, Saber Interactive revealed how it partnered closely with Universal Pictures to ensure every detail feels authentic to the first film. The team went hands-on with iconic props from the movie (think dinosaur eggs, night-vision goggles, and other set pieces), while painstakingly recreating Isla Nublar’s environments.
“We go through room by room in the game, level by level. We look at every possible resource – from archives from the film, production stills, production blueprints – to make sure that every prop is in the same place,” said Universal’s John Melchior.
Authentic Dinosaurs… and Deadly Consequences
Faithfulness to the film doesn’t just mean the scenery looks familiar, it also means the dinosaurs are every bit as dangerous as you’d expect. The carnivorous residents of Isla Nublar aren’t here for a friendly tour; they’re ready to hunt.
From venom-spitting Dilophosauruses to the sheer, unstoppable force of the T. rex, danger lurks at every turn. Players, stepping into the shoes of protagonist Dr. Maya Joshi, will need quick thinking and sharp instincts to survive. And of course, the cunning Velociraptors – arguably the most iconic hunters of the franchise – are ready to make their presence known in terrifying ways.
More Than Just Familiar Ground
While longtime fans will recognize many of the movie’s iconic locations, Jurassic Park: Survival also ventures into unexplored territory. Saber Interactive promises that players will visit areas only hinted at in the original film, adding layers of mystery and discovery to the journey.
The developers aim to balance awe-inspiring moments with genuine tension, making sure that for every breathtaking vista, there’s the shadow of something dangerous just out of sight.
When and Where to Play
There’s no confirmed release date yet, but Jurassic Park: Survival is set to launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
And for fans who can’t wait to dive back into the world of prehistoric beasts, Jurassic World Evolution 3 (the park-building strategy game) hits PC and consoles on October 21. After community backlash over the use of generative AI, developer Frontier Developments confirmed it will no longer use the technology in the game.
