Early-Access Road So Far
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad has been in Early Access on Steam since March, gated behind a $25 Founder’s Pack that bundles the game with cosmetics and premium currency. Two pricier packs add even more in-game goodies for collectors.
Full Launch Details
Netmarble confirmed that the open-world action-RPG will officially launch free-to-play on PC and mobile devices on May 21. The studio promises full cross-play and cross-progression, so switching between your desktop and phone won’t cost you a step—or a loot drop.
Setting & Story
Set after the events of HBO’s smash-hit series, Kingsroad casts you as the heir to a lesser Northern house. After picking one of three classes—Sellsword, Knight, or Assassin—you’ll fight to reclaim your family’s honor. Real-time combat revolves around precise dodges and parries, reflecting the brutal swordplay Westeros is famous for. Familiar faces—including digital likenesses of actors such as Kit Harington—make cameo appearances along the journey.
What You Can Play Right Now
Early-access adventurers can already roam iconic Northern locales such as Castle Black and the Wall, tackle a slice of the main storyline, clear side quests, and dive into co-op dungeons teeming with beasts teased in George R. R. Martin’s lore but never shown on screen.
Community Feedback
Steam reviews currently sit at “Mixed.” Players applaud the game’s cinematic presentation and narrative fidelity, but many are wary of the monetization model embedded in those Founder’s Packs.
A Rare Console-Style Trip to Westeros
Outside of mobile strategy titles, Westeros has seen few third-person action RPGs—the last was Cyanide Studios’ 2012 Game of Thrones. Kingsroad is only the second entry in that category.
The Bigger Picture
With Warner Bros. Games signaling that it will double down on blockbuster IP—including Game of Thrones—expect more dragon-sized projects on the horizon. For now, Kingsroad could be the proving ground that shows just how hungry gamers still are for a return to the Seven Kingdoms—especially when the price of admission drops to free on May 21.
