The battlefield is about to get even deadlier for Helldivers 2 players. Arrowhead Studios has officially revealed its long-awaited Warhammer 40,000 crossover, bringing legendary Imperial weaponry and armor to Super Earth on August 12 through a brand-new Legendary Warbond.
Following previous crossover collaborations inspired by franchises like Halo and Killzone, this latest update shifts its focus away from the iconic Space Marines. Instead, the spotlight shines on one of Warhammer 40K’s most recognizable military forces—the Astra Militarum.
Two New Astra Militarum Armor Sets Join the Fight
The newly released trailer showcases two armor sets inspired by the Astra Militarum.
The Demo Trooper offers heavy armor protection, while the Sharpshooter provides a medium armor option for players who prefer greater mobility. Both sets feature the True Grit passive ability, improving weapon ergonomics and speeding up reload times for Stratagem weapons, making them especially effective during intense firefights.
Classic Warhammer 40K Weapons Enter Helldivers 2
Alongside the armor, the Warbond introduces several fan-favorite weapons pulled straight from the grimdark universe.
Players will gain access to:
- Meltagun support weapon
- Meltamines
- Bolt Pistol secondary weapon
- Lasgun Marksman Rifle primary weapon
The trailer demonstrates just how devastating these additions can be. The Hot Shot Marksman Rifle is capable of piercing multiple enemies with a single shot, while the Meltagun and Meltamines appear highly effective against vehicles and heavily armored targets.
Some Iconic Warhammer Weapons Are Missing
Although the weapon lineup captures plenty of Warhammer 40K flavor, some of the franchise’s most legendary gear is notably absent.
There are no Bolters or Chainswords, weapons most famously associated with the Space Marines. In fact, the Warbond doesn’t include any melee weapons at all—a surprising omission given how closely melee combat is tied to Warhammer’s identity. Fans may find it especially ironic considering that “Drive me closer so I can hit them with my sword” remains one of the universe’s best-known memes.
More Warhammer Content Could Arrive Later
Considering the enormous variety of weapons, factions, and equipment found throughout the Warhammer 40K universe, Arrowhead Studios likely had to make difficult choices when selecting items that best fit Helldivers 2’s gameplay.
That leaves plenty of room for future collaborations if this crossover proves successful. For now, Helldivers can look forward to vaporizing Automatons with the Meltagun, taking down Terminids with the Bolt Pistol, and hoping the Emperor blesses future Warbonds with even more iconic Warhammer weaponry.
