Bungie Reveals Marathon’s PC Requirements Ahead of Launch
If you’re planning to drop into Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter Marathon, now’s the perfect time to check whether your PC is ready for the job.
Earlier this week, Bungie confirmed that Marathon will officially launch on March 5, while also sharing updated technical details ahead of release. Alongside the release date, the studio unveiled a full set of recommended PC system requirements, expanding on the minimum specs first shared during last year’s closed alpha.
The minimum requirements remain unchanged, but players now have a clearer idea of what kind of hardware Bungie expects for the optimal experience.
Marathon PC System Requirements

What These Specs Mean for Players
While Bungie hasn’t confirmed a target resolution or frame rate tied to these specs, the requirements suggest that most mid-range gaming PCs should have no trouble running Marathon smoothly. Even older or lower-powered systems should be able to handle the game by dialing back graphical settings.
One notable omission is storage space – Bungie hasn’t yet revealed how much disk space Marathon will require. That detail will likely be shared closer to launch.
A Rocky Road to Release
Marathon’s journey to launch hasn’t been without turbulence. The game was originally scheduled to release on September 23, 2025, but Bungie delayed it following negative feedback from the alpha playtest. Development was further complicated by a controversy involving stolen artwork, which has since been resolved, and the departure of the game’s art director just months before launch.
Adding to the pressure, Marathon will enter a competitive market dominated by other extraction shooters – including Arc Raiders, which surged in popularity after its release last October.
Can Marathon Avoid the Live-Service Trap?
As part of Sony’s ambitious (and controversial) push into live-service games, Marathon has inevitably been compared to Concord, a title that infamously shut down just two weeks after launch. So far, however, Bungie’s project appears to be on steadier ground.
In a promising early sign, Marathon reached Steam’s Top 10 best sellers during its first day of pre-sales, a milestone Concord never achieved, failing to even break into the top 100.
With solid early interest and approachable PC requirements, Marathon may still have a real shot at standing out when it finally launches this March.
