Call of Duty: WWII Removed from Game Pass on PC After Security Scare
Just days after arriving on Game Pass for PC, Call of Duty: WWII has mysteriously vanished from the platform, prompting a wave of speculation and concern. While Activision hasn’t offered a detailed explanation, the game’s abrupt removal closely follows widespread reports of dangerous hacking incidents.
What Went Wrong? A Potentially Serious Security Breach
Multiplayer hacking isn’t new to the Call of Duty franchise, players have dealt with everything from aimbots to wallhacks for years. But the situation with WWII appears far more severe. Reports point to Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploits, a type of hack that allows malicious users to take control of another player’s PC. This goes far beyond in-game cheating, it’s a serious breach of system security.
This isn’t the first time the gaming world has seen something like this. Back in 2022, a similar RCE vulnerability in Dark Souls III forced Bandai Namco to take the entire Dark Souls trilogy offline while they patched the issue.
Players Caught It First: Alarming Footage Goes Viral
Before WWII was pulled from Game Pass, players began sounding the alarm. Clips began circulating on social media, showing apparent RCE attacks occurring during live gameplay. One widely shared video from user “Wrioh” shows what appears to be a real-time hack taking place during a multiplayer session, with the user’s system being compromised right before their eyes.
Activision’s Response: Vague But Swift
So far, Activision has kept the details under wraps. On July 4, the company posted a brief update on Twitter stating that the PC version of Call of Duty: WWII had been taken offline while they investigate “an issue.” There was no direct mention of RCE exploits or hacking, and no timeline has been provided for the game’s return.
The Call of Duty Universe Marches On
Even with WWII sidelined, the Call of Duty franchise is far from idle. Black Ops 6 and Warzone are currently in the thick of Season 4 Reloaded, which brings new game modes, cel-shaded map variants, and a quirky Beavis and Butt-Head limited-time event to keep players entertained.
Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Mobile is also heating up with a Gundam crossover event featuring exclusive limited-time content.
Looking ahead, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is gearing up for launch later this year on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A full reveal is expected later this summer, and anticipation is already building.
