Tonight’s Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct revealed the new adventure that ESO players can embark on in June 2023. The chapter will include a new zone, 2 new companions, a new class, Hermaeus Mora, and much more.
ESO comes back to Morrowind, to the eastern section of the land, more specifically to the Telvanni Peninsula. It will be the explorable zone of the new chapter. Necrom will be the main city of the zone, which we didn’t see in TES games since 1997’s TES: Arena. In the lore, Necrom is an ancient and neutral city of the dead, where dunmers bury their loved ones. Necrom won’t be the only familiar location. We will visit Apocrypha, the plane of oblivion, the plane of forbidden knowledge too. Given that Apocrypha belongs to Hermaeus Mora, we will probably find the daedric prince of knowledge here.
ESO also introduces a new class to the game called The Arcanist. The Arcanist channels the ancient magic of Apocrypha to create spell tomes and use runic magic. I assume it will be a magicka-based class. The Arcanist will start with 3 skill lines:
- Herald of The Tome to damage dealing (DD),
- Apocryphal Soldier to tanking,
- Curative Runeforms to healing.
ZOS also implementing a combo point system for the new class. Certain abilities will build these points, others spend them to enhance abilities. Besides this, The Arcanists will build their own spell tome. It will be like a collection of spell tomes you acquire through your travels and fights. This all sounds foggy now, but it might be a basic spell-crafting or ability-enhancing system.
2 new companions are coming to the game, to help explore and raiding. One of them is an Argonian warden called “Sharp-as-Night”. He is a mercenary who has amnesia. He doesn’t speak much, lived a tough life, and doesn’t trust others easily. The other new companion is called Azandar, a wise and fatherly figured red guard Arcanist who has a narrow focus on knowledge.
Roughly 30 hours of new content coming in June, but in March, there will be a new dungeon DLC to kick off this adventure. At the end of the show, they mentioned a new game system that will debut at the end of the year, called Infinite Dungeon, but not any more info on this.
