New World has launched, but it’s roasting pricey video cards
Amazon's brand new MMORPG opened its doors to players who pre-ordered the game, or acquired an invitation for closed-beta test.
Thousands of excited players joined the cbt launch, most of the early gameplay reports were positive, but there were some which mentioned a concerning issue: The game is roasting pricey RTX 3090s graphics cards. Players across several different platforms are reporting issues with overheating GPUs.
New World’s developers are aware of the issue, Amazon was quick enough to reply the following:
“Hundreds of thousands of people played in the New World Closed Beta yesterday, with millions of total hours played. We’ve received a few reports of players using high-performance graphics cards experiencing hardware failure when playing New World.
Another comment from a player said:
Blaming the game is total nonsense. Cards are built for 100% utilization. They should never ever fail no matter how bad the software that you throw at it is.
Any fault here lies squarely with either nVidia for the driver or EVGA for using out of spec components.
Developers are stating New World is safe to play at the moment, but we suggest you the following: If you have a high-end graphics card, maybe it’s safer to wait for further updates, and we hope every issue will be solved for the full launch, which comes on 31th August, 2021! Stay tuned!
