Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting upcoming releases in the Warhammer franchise, and fans won’t have to wait much longer to get their hands on it. The sequel now has an October release date, along with a particularly fitting surprise for longtime first-person shooter fans.
Legendary composer Mick Gordon, best known for his work on Doom and Wolfenstein, is making a special musical appearance in the game.
Boltgun 2 Launches October 14
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 will launch on October 14 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also planned, although it won’t arrive alongside the other editions. According to the official announcement, the Switch 2 release will follow “shortly after.”
The release-date trailer offers another reason for FPS fans to pay attention, particularly once its soundtrack kicks in.
Mick Gordon Is Joining the Fight
The music featured in the new trailer comes courtesy of Mick Gordon, the composer famous for creating the crushing, high-energy soundtracks associated with modern Doom and Wolfenstein games.
Gordon’s contribution to Boltgun 2 is being described as a “cameo,” but it sounds like it will arrive at exactly the right moment. His composition will accompany the game’s final boss battle, potentially giving the climactic encounter an extra dose of intensity.
For a retro-inspired shooter built around tearing through hordes of enemies in the name of the Emperor, it’s difficult to imagine a more fitting musical guest.
Two Playable Heroes and Plenty of Enemies
Boltgun 2 expands on the fast-paced boomer-shooter formula established by the original game while introducing another playable character.
Ultramarine Malum Caedo returns from the first Boltgun, but this time players will also be able to step into the boots of Battle Sister Nyra Veyrath. The addition should provide some extra variety as players blast their way through the sequel’s armies of enemies.
One of the biggest threats standing in their way will be Vashtorr, the powerful daemonic demigod. Naturally, he’ll be joined by plenty of other enemies waiting to be reduced to bloody chunks.
Expect Another Brutal Challenge
The original Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun earned attention for combining classic FPS design with the violent, over-the-top atmosphere of the Warhammer 40K universe. It was also notoriously challenging, frequently throwing dangerous encounters and relentless hordes at players.
There’s every reason to expect Boltgun 2 to continue in that direction, only with more characters, enemies, and ways to unleash destruction.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches October 14 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with the Nintendo Switch 2 edition arriving “shortly after.” With Mick Gordon providing the music for the final boss fight, the sequel’s biggest battle already sounds like it could be one to remember.
