Diablo 4 Season 12’s Hardest Content Just Got Easier
Diablo 4’s Season of Slaughter introduced some brutally difficult new content, but one challenge proved so punishing that even top-tier players struggled to finish it. Now, Blizzard is stepping in to tone things down.
According to the latest patch notes released ahead of the March 24 update, the notoriously difficult Bloodsoaked Sigils are being “significantly” nerfed to make them more accessible.
Blizzard addressed the change directly in a developer note:
“We’ve received feedback that many players cannot reasonably complete Bloodsoaked Sigils after unlocking them. By lowering the difficulty significantly, we hope to guarantee that all players who have earned access to Bloodsoaked content have a better chance of success.”
What Are Bloodsoaked Sigils and Why Were They So Brutal?
Season 12 introduced Bloodstained and Bloodsoaked Sigils, modifiers that crank up the difficulty of Nightmare Dungeons to extreme levels. The twist? The Butcher relentlessly hunts players throughout these encounters, turning already dangerous runs into high-stakes survival tests.
While Bloodstained Sigils are accessible to most endgame players, Bloodsoaked Sigils sit on another level entirely. To even unlock them, players must first conquer Tier 100 of the Pit – a challenge that already demands peak builds and skill.
The fact that many players who cleared Pit 100 still couldn’t complete Bloodsoaked Sigils speaks volumes about just how punishing these dungeons were.
With the incoming nerf, these encounters should now strike a better balance between difficulty and fairness, while still offering meaningful endgame challenges.
Better Rewards, More Players
The biggest upside is that more players will now be able to consistently complete Bloodsoaked Sigils and claim their high-tier rewards.
Previously, the difficulty spike made the content feel nearly inaccessible even for elite players. With the adjustments, Blizzard is clearly aiming to ensure that unlocking the content actually feels rewarding, not frustrating.
Other Patch Changes Worth Noting
While the Bloodsoaked Sigil nerf is the headline change, the patch includes several other important updates:
- The Butcher gets tougher in PvP zones
Encounters in the Fields of Hatred will now feature a Butcher with increased health, making these fights even more intense. - Quality-of-life improvements at Kael Rills’ shop
A stash and blacksmith have been added, so players no longer need to travel back to Gea Kul to manage gear. - Bug fix for Obducite drops
Bloodied Nightmare Dungeons were not dropping Obducite at the same rate as standard Nightmare Dungeons. This has now been fixed, making them viable again for gear upgrades.
Season 12 Is Short, but Packed With Action
Season 12 will run for just under two months, wrapping up on April 28, the same day the Lord of Hatred expansion launches.
This season centers around a new Killstreak mechanic, inspired by Diablo 3, where chaining kills unlocks powerful bonuses. Players can even tap into unique Legendary powers and yes, temporarily transform into the Butcher.
Looking Ahead: Lord of Hatred Expansion
The upcoming Lord of Hatred expansion is shaping up to be a major evolution for Diablo 4. Key features include:
- Completely reworked skill trees (with passive skills removed)
- A new 12-tier difficulty system
- Two brand-new classes
Blizzard has acknowledged that the game’s frequent updates and sweeping changes can be hard to keep up with, but it’s clear the studio is committed to continually refining the experience.
