Marathon Server Slam: Play Early, Earn Loot

If you’re planning to dive into Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, the pre-launch Server Slam is more than just a sneak peek: it’s a reward-filled test run. Players can jump in early, experiment with gameplay systems, and stockpile cosmetics and gear that will carry over to launch.

The Server Slam runs February 26 (10 AM PT / 1 PM ET) through March 2 at the same time. The event functions like an open beta and, just as importantly, gives Bungie a chance to stress-test its servers before release.

Expect a few bumps along the way. Bungie has warned players that login queues, disconnects, error codes, bugs, and occasional downtime are likely. The studio also confirmed its team will be actively monitoring the test and addressing problems as they appear.

What Content Is Available During the Test?

This preview build is intentionally limited:

• Only two Tau Ceti zones will be playable: Perimeter and Dire Marsh
• Players can use five of the six Runner shells
• Several core mechanics and systems are present, but not everything

When the full game launches, Bungie says players can expect:

• More zones
• Additional factions
• Expanded contracts
• More gear
• Ranked mode
• And, in Bungie’s words, “some secrets you’ll have to experience yourself.”

Server Slam Rewards (Earn by Playing)

Beyond early access, the real incentive is loot. Simply participating unlocks cosmetics and gear that will be delivered once the game officially releases.

Important: None of these items appear immediately. All rewards will be granted when Marathon launches on March 5.

You’ll earn your first bundle of equipment after finishing your first proper mission:

Progression matters during the weekend event. Hit level 10 to unlock:

• Enhanced Hardline Weapon

Reach Runner Level 30 – Deluxe Arrival Cache

The biggest prize pool is reserved for dedicated players who grind hard:

Twitch Drops (Earn by Watching)

Even if you can’t get into matches, you can still collect launch cosmetics. During the Server Slam weekend, watching Marathon streams on Twitch will reward items for the full game.

All you have to do:

1. Link your Bungie account with Twitch
2. Watch any streamer in the Marathon category

• 1 Hour: SMILEYworm Emblem
• 2 Hours: WEAVEworm Background

Platform-Exclusive Bonuses

Bungie is also offering Xbox and PlayStation-exclusive rewards throughout the Server Slam weekend. Details depend on your platform, so console players should definitely log in at least once to claim their unique bonuses.
