Silent Hill Returns: Bloober Team to Re-imagine the 1999 Horror Classic

Konami used its Press Start showcase on Thursday to reveal that Bloober Team is rebuilding the very first Silent Hill. The teaser was minimal – a lone logo fading in through thick mist while Akira Yamaoka’s haunting theme played – but it was more than enough to electrify fans. For now, Konami is keeping quiet on launch timing and supported platforms.

A Partnership with Proven Scares

This remake marks the studios’ second joint venture after last year’s acclaimed overhaul of Silent Hill 2. Back in February, Konami confirmed that the partnership was continuing, and Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno hinted at “something truly special” still under wraps. He praised the “fruitful” collaboration and noted that the hard-won lessons from SH2 are feeding directly into the new project.

Revisiting the 1999 Original

First released for the original PlayStation in 1999, Silent Hill follows everyman Harry Mason as he searches the eerie lakeside town for his missing adopted daughter, Cheryl. The journey uncovers monsters, cult rituals, and startling truths about Cheryl’s identity – plus the game’s quirky nods to the film Kindergarten Cop.

What Critics Said About the Last Remake

Bloober’s remake of Silent Hill 2 launched on PlayStation 5 and Windows PC to strong reviews. Critics applauded its striking visuals, meticulous environmental details, and expanded narrative choices that deepened the original’s ambiguity.

What’s Next for Bloober Team

While the new Silent Hill bides its time in the fog, Bloober Team is also preparing Cronos: The New Dawn, a sci-fi horror adventure slated for release this fall.
