Revisiting an Iconic Operation
Back in 1993, a U.S. military operation called Operation Gothic Serpent aimed to capture two top lieutenants of warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid in Mogadishu, Somalia. When two Black Hawk helicopters were shot down, the mission shifted into a tense rescue effort that would echo through history. The battle that followed was fierce, with soldiers trapped behind enemy lines and under relentless fire.
Now, the free-to-play shooter Delta Force plunges you into the heart of that legendary conflict. Appropriately titled Black Hawk Down, this brand-new co-op campaign is inspired by the iconic film of the same name and takes cues from the original missions in 2003’s Delta Force: Black Hawk Down.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5
The city of Mogadishu has been painstakingly rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, offering a richer, more immersive experience than ever before. Detailed cityscapes, realistic enemies, and intense firefights create a visceral atmosphere that will keep you on your toes. Don’t expect an easy ride: the action here is unapologetically challenging, designed to push you and your teammates to the limit.
Solo or Squad? Choose Wisely
While you can tackle the campaign solo, be prepared for a significant challenge. Enemies won’t scale down in difficulty just because you’re on your own. The developers recommend bringing a co-op squad of four—the maximum size allowed—so you can support one another. This isn’t a casual shooting gallery; every alleyway and rooftop hides a new threat. Communication and teamwork are vital to survival.
Seven Chapters of Combat
The campaign is split into seven chapters, each focusing on a different aspect of the conflict. When you join a lobby, the host’s progress determines which chapters are open to start. Once your squad completes a chapter, everyone unlocks the next one together. At the end of each chapter, you’ll receive a letter grade based on your squad’s overall performance.
- Convoy Escort: Protect injured personnel traveling through chaotic streets.
- Crash Site Rescue: Rush to a downed helicopter and secure the area before it’s overwhelmed.
- Escape Under Fire: Navigate blockades and heavy resistance in a daring attempt to break free from the city.
Strategy and Caution First
In each mission, your primary objective is more important than racking up kills. That said, you can’t just sprint through enemy lines without a plan. Working as a unit and keeping each other covered is essential. One misstep can lead to an ambush that could end your run before it even gets off the ground.
Classes and Loadouts
Before each deployment, every squad member selects a class and customizes their loadout. Classes come with various strengths—some might have medical kits to heal fallen comrades, others carry additional ammo to keep your team stocked in prolonged firefights. Regardless of your class, you can revive downed teammates, so make sure to keep a watchful eye on your squad’s status.
Unlockable Rewards
Progressing through the campaign brings more than just bragging rights. Here’s a glimpse at what awaits:
- First Chapter Completion: Earn a rare calling card.
- Full Campaign Completion: Score an epic calling card and badge.
- S Rank in All Chapters (Co-Op): Unlock a second badge to show off your squad’s prowess.
- S Rank in All Chapters (Solo): A third badge—reserved for the truly fearless among you.
