Dear Villagers, the publisher of narrative card game Foretales, has assembled a panel of various digital card game developers to discuss their unique approach to storytelling.
Entitled ‘Top Decks and Tall Tales’ – conveying narrative through card games, the entire presentation can be viewed below:
The panelists include Alkemi’s Alain Puget (Foretales), Nerial Studio’s Francois Alliot, (Reigns, Card Shark), Daniel Mullins Games’ founder Daniel Mullins (Inscryption), Shiny Shoes’ Brendan Rafeld (Monster Train), and, prettysmart games’ Miko Charbonneau (THE SPIRIT LIFT). The panel was moderated and presented by Nerial Studio’s Jared J Tan (Reigns, Card Shark).
Topics include: what kinds of stories can be best told through cards, how to create memorable characters, what aspects of cards are most important in terms of narrative weight, how different strategies convey player personalities, which card games are on the cutting edge of narrative design, the best ways to monetise new cards games, and what comes first between gameplay systems and art direction.
