As the first control-oriented Guardian in two years, Atlas was eagerly awaited by the community. Support players on the duo lane can now carry their team to victory just like this Titan carries the weight of the cosmos on his shoulders.
Sentenced by Zeus to haul the universe in an Astrolabe, Atlas uses it as a mighty weapon in-game. Playing him is all about teamplay and strategic decision-making. Atlas can alleviate allies of slow effects – and place them on an enemy God instead. With the Astrolabe, players can relocate opponents far away from endangered allies, or on the contrary send them straight in the middle of his team.
“Atlas was a really enjoyable character for us to work on,” said SMITE’s animation team. “The most challenging aspect was conquering his Astrolabe. This weapon is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before and the team was innovative with how Atlas utilizes it in battle.”
“We also worked closely with all of the other teams in finding a unique personality hook for Atlas. Many of our characters are based on how regal, magical, or extremely proficient in combat they may be. Here we latched on to the caring, protective, and exhausted fatherly figure that is Atlas. Although a Titan, he is one of the most human characters in SMITE.”
