Riftstorm team shares stats on their “quietly successful” pre-alpha playtest
The one week playtest has engaged players to play for hours!
Two months after their quietly successful pre-alpha playtest in November, the Riftstorm team is sharing their data recap with a media twist. Last November, Rifstorm developers were shocked when pre-alpha testers blew past internal expectations and their initially closed playtest reached over 5000 playtesters, with players exceeding over 40 hours of playtime within the weeklong playtest.
“Given how early we are in production, we had only implemented an expected 3 hours of content.” Creative Director, Fandry Indrayadi shared. “The fact that players hit that, and kept going is shocking and very gratifying. We spent so long trying to get our gameplay fundamentals down and now we can see it finally paying off.”

With morale at an all-time high, the Riftstorm team has also taken the opportunity to celebrate the success by field-testing their grand vision for collaborative entertainment on a small scale.
“Collaborative Entertainment is a weird and untested vision for how IPs and entertainment can grow with audiences and creators.” says Chief Creative Igor Tanzil, before continuing, “So let’s take the best parts of that pre-alpha playtest – the players, the personalities, and the jokes that came out of the community organically and let’s feed that back into the IP as narrative input. What we got back is a short “slice-of-life” look at the deeper universe we’re building, in the form of a short 3-page comic.”
Alongside their data recap, the Riftstorm team will also be dropping pages of their official web comic and one-off shorts on their social media.
Riftstorm is available to wishlist on Steam, and the community-inspired media content will be shared on their social media channels and website.
