Here’s what we know about Palia in 2022
Palia is an upcoming community sim MMO, where you can build a home and life, meet other villagers, and explore a beautiful world. Let's see, what Palia updates we have!
We haven’t heard much about Palia since September 2021 – That’s when the pre-alpha test ended, and the dev team shared their experiences in a blog post. A quick summary of the pre-alpha can be found here!
Palia is still in early development, but they are heavily relying on the community’s feedback and ideas. Here’s some information gathered from Palia’s official Discord server!
What kind of game is Palia?
Palia is being developed by a small studio from LA, Singularity 6. The team is made of several veterans from big studios, such as Riot, Epic, Blizzard.
Palia is running with Unreal Engine 4, and the team is working on the game since 2018. This means we probably still have a few more years ahead, to get the final version of Palia.
The game is currently tested in English, but Singularity 6 has plans on localizing to additional languages in the future.
We also have some information regarding the gameplay. Palia has a beautiful colorful world that you can explore by walking or by gliding – we have seen a short footage that showed how gliding works in the game. Palia also has all the activities any MMO needs: Gathering, hunting, fishing, crafting, cooking, housing, and much more. Palia is more like a community simulation game, where you can relax and spend quality gaming time without much stress – you can even have a romance with an NPC! However we still don’t know anything about PVP content – if there will be at all, and in my opinion, Palia does not need any player versus player content.
But there’s more! Here’s some Q&A from Palia’s official Discord:
Q: Do you have an in game mailbox? Can you send other players mail/items?
A: Right now we have an adorable in-game mailbox (see concept pic) where you get mail from the Villagers. In the future we plan to leverage the mail system to allow players to send each other letters and gifts
Q: Will there be seasons? and weather patterns such as snow, heavy rains and storms, routes, etc to go with them?
A: We’re not ready to talk about seasons at this time, but we will definitely have a dynamic weather system that will impact a wide variety of the gameplay content in the game.
Q: Will there be hidden quests to get rare items? Or trips with riddles to a loot? Like a treasure hunt!
A: Yes, there will be secret lore items for the player to discover and many mysteries to be unraveled. Some of these will be smaller atmospheric details, but others take the shape of items you find that unlock secret quests or books you can find to piece together bits of the backstory. We want the world to be full of fun secrets to explore and contemplate for years to come.
And lastly, Palia’s monetization model is not announced yet, it’s still under discussion.
