Why should you play Earthbound if you are an RPG fan?
The worst marketed role-playing game of all time, yet it has become a cult followed by gamers. Let’s see why Earthbound is awesome.
Earthbound was released for SNES mini consoles and Nintendo Virtual Console, so now everyone can try it. Let’s see why Earthbound is awesome.
12 interesting features of Earthbound
-It has everyday characters but nice heroes. There are no spiky headed good-looking guys like Cloud or Sora. Instead, we have got a bunch of kids with baseball caps, inventing skills, and a kind-hearted lass in the team.
-It has an interesting way to handle Hit Points. Hit Points rolled down if your character is attacked by monsters and you can save them with an item before the points reach zero. So be tactical in the middle of the battle! Good timing can save your character from mortal wounds.
-You have a bank account with a credit card. You get money from your parents. You can buy weapons, armor, food, items, accessories. Earthbound has really unique items which can be used in funny ways. Like old socks which cause a status effect to the enemy.
-Weapons are funny. You can fight with a baseball bat, a frying pan, or a slingshot. You will find them great after you played too much Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.
-Obscure enemies: Hippies, evil crows, battle snails, stray dogs. You have to deal with anything which you did not find in video games before.
-There is a town where yes is no and no is yes so you have to be careful answering questions.
-There is a labyrinth full of monkeys and you can get through by giving them items they want. This is where your inventory skills are put to a test.
-There is a music band called Runaway five that helps you to get into the third city in the game. You have to listen to their concert and help with their money problem.
-Tessie, the loch-ness monster parody. Only we can find her. The group of scientists try to catch her but have no chance to locate the beast.
-Happy Happyism sect rules a small village next to the hero’s hometown. They are a group of crazy Ku Klux clan wannabes who love the color blue. You have to rescue the plot’s heroine from their evil clutches.
-Test of Po. You have to meditate at the place of emptiness. The voice in your head almost kills your character (making questions if he can hack your arms and legs off), but do you have the courage to run through this mortal test?
-The famous waterfall quest. You can stay still for 3 minutes in a waterfall to get into the secret door. It is as crazy as Castlevania 2, where you have to wait for the tornado to kneel down for 30 seconds.
Earthbound is hard and weird at once, but it is extremely fun to play! If you never heard of fit, and if you have Nintendo or SNES, what are you waiting for?
