Sea of Thieves places you into the boots of a pirate in a multiplayer first person shooter setting, allowing you to explore the an open world with a pirateship, cooperating with, or competing against other players. The game’s popularity is rising continually. The game’s most active month was in June 2020, with over 3.3 million active players, the same month when RARE released Sea of Thieves on Steam with cross platform capability.
Joe Neate showed his gratitude to players by stating:
“On behalf of all of us at Rare, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s ever played Sea of Thieves for helping to get us this far. It’s a game that we love making, and there’s plenty more to come. See you on the seas.”
The game is also one of the many games that launched, and is available on Xbox Game Pass. It is unclear how many of the millions of players were Game Pass subscribers and how many paid for the game. The millions of active players are an indisputable proof that RARE has done a fantastic job turning Sea of Thieves into a popular, and enjoyable game for millions of players.
RARE is also working on adding custom servers to the game, giving their community a tool to create their own cusomized adventures. Congratulations to RARE!
