BlazBlue Centralfiction: The best anime fighter game?
BlazBlue is like the second generation of Arc System Works who was responsible for another legendary fighting game, Guilty Gear. Let's test this!
Like with Guilty Gear, they love to upgrade the game into editions slowly, but surely. Central Fiction is on the top of the list. The games have been changed over time and there are spinoffs and other special editions. I’ve found Central Fiction the best to discover.
First Impression of BlazBlue: Centralfiction
When you click on start, a quality anime cutscene is shown, so every manga/anime fan will turn their head to the screen. It’s really beautiful and shows all the characters of BlazBlue. The character artworks, the character’s game sprites, the stage backgrounds are all in a nice anime style. In my era, no anime fighting games were released in Europe or on PC so it was hard to get such kind of a game. I felt like a little anime fan kid again, when I’ve started to play.
Characters in BlazBlue Centralfiction
There are 36 playable characters which makes a huge replay value because, in this game, there are no two similar playing fighters. You need to learn the character’s fighting style and usage. It’s not like in street fighter or king of fighters where there is the usual combo. No. Here, you have to learn to handle your chosen one to win the match.
Everyone, especially anime fans, can find their favorite characters. There is a catgirl, a cyborg, a vampire, a witch, a sorcerer, a swordsman, a ninja, and who knows what else.. If you arrive on the character select screen for the first time, you are swarmed with selectables. You can’t decide who to pick. I recommend seeing some youtube videos where nice gamers explain the different characters and how to use them. Maybe you will find your fighter this way. I did this because 36 different characters are too much.
Gameplay of BlazBlue Centralfiction
Gameplay. It is a 1vs1 fighting game. The health bar reaches zero at the opponent and you win – simple as that. There are super moves called Astrals, Supers, and Overdrives. The creators made these moves highly amazing to watch. The game mechanics can be learned in an excellent way. There is a detailed tutorial mode where two anime characters take the lead to teach you the whole gameplay of this 2D anime fighting game.
In the game menu, you can play story mode which is like an anime graphic novel mixed with a fighting game, you can play the arcade mode. There are other game modes that give you a great deal of entertainment even after you did story mode with everyone. With 36 characters, you won’t finish in one sit.
Conclusion
The only problem with this game, if you play with a keyboard, you will face difficulties. It’s recommended to plug in a PC gamepad like Thrustmaster. Originally, it was made for consoles so it is no wonder there is no chance for a good keyboard experience.
BlazBlue is a game that never wants to end like Guilty Gear in its time. People still play it online, there are tournaments, streams on Twitch, and an active community on Steam.
If you like anime fighting games, I recommend this one the most because of its characters and gameplay. The most important stuff about a fighting game is to be able to pick up and play it and BlazBlue: Central Fiction did its best. It is the best pick for beginners and veterans.
