Elyon, formerly known as Ascent: Infinite Realm has officially launched after changing its business model, and even delaying launch due to New World’s debut.
A few days have passed since launch, and currently, the game is only peaking at 15.000 players, while New World’s daily peak was above 500.000. Of course, the two games can’t be compared to one another, but it’s still sad to see Elyon’s statistics and player reviews.
The first red flag about Elyon was the business model change: When a game suddenly changes the business model from buy-to-play to free-to-play before launch, it’s never good news. Good for the casual players, because they can play instantly without paying money, but at the same time it’s a bad omen for long-term players.
Elyon had to disable World Quest and RvR due to server issues, now they’re trying to stabilize the service and open a third European server.
One player review on Steam says the following:
“I’m sorry to say that Elyon is just not very interesting. When TERA (another Bluehole game) was released, it was very revolutionary for its time: an action combat MMO with a great look and feel. Elyon actually feels like a step backward — the combat is not as impactful or interesting, the engine performance (Unreal Engine 3) is really poor, and the game is mostly focused on grinding or somewhat pointless PvP.”
Elyon might not be the most competitive game in the genre right now, but it’s free-to-play, it’s fresh, so we definitely recommend you to try it!
