Genshin Impact fans are raging over 1st anniversary rewards, MiHoYo is silent
MiHoYo's game Genshin Impact celebrates its first anniversary - and probably this one is the most stressful and disappointing anniversary in the gaming history.
Every gamer loves free gifts, and we all know when to expect these rewards: Anniversary events. These events are mostly celebrating the community, because games can’t live without a decent playerbase, especially MMOs and MMORPGs.
Genshin Impact was released exactly one year ago, millions of players on several platforms joined Teyvat for endless adventures, and now everyone was expecting something big – something worthy for a big game title like Genshin Impact.
“It’s not the lack of rewards, it’s the silence…”
“Teyvat Times are a distant memory. Developer’s Discussions used to be every patch, haven’t seen one since 1.6. Silence to community feedback on character development and issues with kits. Disastrous PR with regards to the anniversary. Maybe I’ve missed something, but what the heck is going on with this company…?“
Reddit user SephLuna opened a discussion starting with these lines.
It’s true, that MiHoYo chose to be silent about anniversary rewards – and they’re rather taking passive-aggressive actions against complaining players – banning people on Discord, the official Reddit thread is under lockdown, players cannot change in-game signatures at the moment, and so much more.
You have to work hard for a chance to win something
Genshin Impact has some community anniversary events, but you have to work hard – drawing a fanart or creating a video gives you a CHANCE to win a prize. No rewards for participation. The next event is a web event, which is cute and heart-warming – You get guided in a nicely drawn animated theater, where you can learn about some personal game-statistics, like how many days you’ve played so far, how many mobs you’ve killed, how many treasure chest you’ve opened, and so on. But the rewards at the end are again, disappointing.
In-game event called “Moonlight Meriment” along with a 7-day login event also started today, but these are regular events we all have seen before, with no trace of an anniversary celebration.
MiHoYo’s other game, Honkai Impact also has anniversary events every year, and the huge difference only fueled the players’ rage. Honkai Impact players are usually getting lots of freebies, characters, in-game items, outfits – while Genshin Impact players get literally nothing for playing the game and even spending hundreds of dollars just to get the newest 5-stars character.
In the first six months after release, Genshin Impact has reportedly crossed over $1 billion in revenue, yet the company is failed to give decent rewards for the game’s first anniversary.
One live stream is yet to come, so the situation is not completely hopeless. These live streams usually yield some in-game codes with free items and Primogems, so MiHoYo still has some chance to compensate the disappointed players.
Despite of this unfortunate handling of anniversary rewards, Genshin Impact is still worth playing, and it’s still free-to-play! 🙂
