Enlisted is a free-to-play FPS shooter developed by Darkflow Software and published by Gaijin Entertainment. The selling point is, the player controls an AI squad with members specializing in various roles. The battles take place in the key battles of WWII, at famous operating locations. But what makes Enlisted so immersive? Let’s dive in.
The game focuses on Infantry warfare, but the players can drive vehicles such as planes and tanks. Enlisted has a more realistic approach than the other WWII FPS games, with accurately recreated weapons and equipment. The main thing that stood out for me is how easy it is to die. It takes 2-3 bullets to get killed, with no health regen. As well as killing opps. It feels like your equipment has weight, and it takes real time to reload your weapon. Every decision matters in the chaotic scene of death, mist, and explosions.
You are not alone in this battle. The player commands an AI-controlled squad. They act independently too, but to achieve success, they need your strategic direction. You start as the leader, but if you fall in the battle you can take on any of the members. Each squad member can specialize in one of the 12 roles such as trooper, medic, tanker, rifleman, bomber, etc. Different specialists have different loadouts, and access to unique weapons. As you gain XP, you can train your soldiers, or recruit stronger ones.
On top of the cake, Enlisted is cross-platform, so PC players can fight against Xbox, and PS gamers at the same time. Given that Enlisted is free, there are microtransactions present, but they do not influence the gameplay in any aspect. I played it on the PS4, and to my surprise, it didn’t require PS Plus for online play. Overall, Enlisted has high replayability, gives unique gameplay, and operates in beautifully crafted maps.
