Why People Don’t Like Forspoken?
Forspoken became everybody's punching bag, but hear me out. #forspoken #squareenix
Users getting off their steam on Forspoken in the last couple of days. The game is getting review-bombed on Metacritic, focusing on the narrative issues, lack of likeable characters, and mostly the unrelatable protagonist. Forspoken is astonishingly beautiful, Luminous Productions did an outstanding job in Unreal Engine 5, but, a reminder: it’s their first own game.
Almost all AAA games nowadays release half-finished, filled with bugs, and sometimes in a barely playable state. In the older days, when games were cheaper, sure the first-day versions of games included bugs too, but the current economic situation makes the 70-dollar-games-era pill harder to swallow. So what do people see? Games getting more expensive, but they’re released in worse condition, or filled with micro-transactions. So I think
people became skeptical with AAA games.
It’s almost impossible to please everyone, and only some huge and experienced studios can live up to the expectations of the fans, but it’s doable. And there are many redemption stories from previous years such as No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077, or the slow acceptance of battle-royale games.
Aside from the writing, Forspoken is a true next-gen experience. Luminous Productions has massive potential in my opinion, and I bet that they will be decisive figures in this generation of the gaming industry. They proved themselves to be good at building great game mechanics, they just need better narrative direction.
